With the COVID-19 crisis creating an extra burden, the federal and state governments have expanded child nutrition programs to make life easier for families in a chaotic time.
A new program providing free Kosher Grab-and-Go meals for children in Central Pennsylvania began on Sunday, June 21 and is available to all families, regardless of school, income, and religious affiliation.
The program is available thanks to the efforts of Norman Gras, Teach PA (a project of the Orthodox Union), Jewish Federation of Greater Harrisburg and Jewish Community Foundation of Central PA and thanks to approval of the Pennsylvania Department of Education!
Meal pickup takes place on Sundays at the Harrisburg JCC from 12pm – 1pm. Each box contains five breakfasts and five lunches per child. Pickup is contactless with boxes placed directly into cars. Recipients are asked to please wear masks during pickup.
Participation is not available for JCC ELC and Summer Break at the J participants as those children are provided meals during daily programs. Participation is otherwise open to all under the age of 18.
In order to ensure enough supply, please complete the interest form on the Jewish Federation’s website by visiting www.jewishharrisburg.org/koshergrabandgo.
The program is seeking volunteers. If you are able to help distribute meals at the JCC on Sundays during the summer, please contact Arielle Frankston –Morris at ariellefm@ou.org.
