York JCC Expands Social Services Through JFS Acquisition

By Jessica Montour

The York Jewish Community Center is expanding its programs and services through the acquisition of Jewish Family Services of York. As of May 28, 2021, York JFS is now operating as the Family Services department of the York JCC.

Since 1988, JFS has provided quality services to York County residents in need. In recent years, those efforts have focused primarily on assisting older adults and their families in improving their quality of life through community resources, groceries and safety-net services, transportation, and social engagement opportunities.

This historic acquisition is the culmination of a multi-year study and extensive consultation and planning amongst the boards of both organizations. Leading the new Family Services department is Director, Carol Miller, who brings 20+ years of experience in volunteer management and program administration in long-term care and hospice settings. In recent years, Miller served as JFS’ Development and Program Director, enhancing senior programming and strengthening volunteer recruitment, retention, and engagement efforts.

As part of the York JCC mission to build a community of well-being, and consistent with Jewish values of Chesed (loving kindness) and Tzedakah (social justice/giving), this newly created Family Services department will provide the York JCC additional opportunities to care for those in need.
